UTS: Facilities Hire

The Greenhalgh Theatre

A very popular venue for dance performances, school speech days and public lectures, the Greenhalgh Theatre is located on our Kuring-gai Campus in Sydney's North Shore. The Kuring-gai Campus encompasses 55 acres in total and the building was a winner of the Sulman Medal in 1978, a 1972 RAIA Merit Award and a Royal Australian Horticultural Society Award for Bush Landscape Design.

The Greenhalgh Theatre was named after Alton Greenhalgh who assumed the role of the first pricipal of the William Balmain Teachers College when it was relocated to the site in September 1971 and declared a "College of Advanced Education". In January 1990 the Ku-ring-gai College of Advanced Education merged with the UTS.

The Theatre is a 882 seat theatrical auditorium (approx 690 seats are on the lower level and 192 in gallery/balcony seating plus space for 7 wheelchairs), with a user-friendly space with raked seating. It has a spacious Foyer which is open-plan and ideal for exhibitions, cocktail parties and registrations.

Features of the Theatre which are included in the standard hire charge include:

  • Large built in AV Screen
  • Stage
  • Access to 1 Female and 1 Male dressing room, and 1 Make Up Room
  • Loading Dock
  • Seating includes writing tablets

Due to the nature of this venue, all clients must be in contact with our Theatre Technician prior to their event to discuss light and sound requirements. Lighting and sound in the venue are suitable for a standard lecture for approx 300 people - requirements additional to this will be outsourced by the client through the theatre technician.

The number of seats in the venue changes based on time of year to accommodate the needs of the University. We therefore have 2 floor plans. One for January - October , and another for November & December .
